Working together to make a difference in our community

The LGJWC was formed in 2013 as a way to serve the needs of the outlying rural community surrounding the LKG area. These areas include but are not limited too Brunswick, Greensville, Mecklenburg, Warren, and Halifax Counties. The goal is to bring together the volunteer resources to fulfill the community service needs in the area. We welcome all ideas of projects and welcome members of the area, whether full or part time in the LKG and surrounding community areas. We are a part of The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), one of the world's oldest and largest women's volunteer service organization, dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With more than 100,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen countries, GFWC members work in their own communities to support the arts, preserve natural resources, advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding.

EDUCATION

Education opens doors to a new life of opportunities for our youth as well as those returning to school. Our aim is to assist others in achieving their education goals.

HOME LIFE

Our goal is to inform members of issues that affect the well-being of individuals, families, and communities by providing opportunities and resources to meet and address needs through volunteering.

PUBLIC ISSUES

Civic and social responsibilities are key components in our lives. Our aim is to actively connect member with effective projects and activities. We focus on areas such as citizenship, military personnel, emergency and disaster preparedness, safety, and crime prevention.

ARTS

Art is essential to your quality of life. We encourage member to promote and support arts activities throughout the community. Projects and programs in which our members are involved include music, dance, drama, theatre, and fine arts.

CONSERVATION

Our natural resources are among our most precious treasures. Through preservation, maintenance, and restoration of our natural resources, we strive to educate the community about the importance of beautifying our world and to stimulate citizen action to address these concerns.

INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH

In a world where half of the population--over three billion people--lives on less than $2.50 a day, and 21,000 children die each day due to poverty, we strive to reach beyond our own communities to consider how we can make a global impact. Our goal is to enable members to become better world citizens through advocacy, education , and action.

JUNIORS' SPECIAL PROJECT: ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN

This special project was adopted by the GFWC Juniors to give all club members an opportunity to participate in projects that benefit children of all ages. We work to ensure children are protected from harmful situations and encourage healthy physical and emotional lifestyles.

GFWC SIGNATURE PROJECT: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION

GFWC is a national leader in the fight to end domestic violence. By supporting existing activities, working with established programs, and initializing educational opportunities for local citizens, our goal is to increase awareness and prevention of domestic abuse.

OUR MEETINGS ARE HELD ON THE SECOND THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH AT THE LAKE GASTON VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
AT 6:30 PM.
